Looking at the Sasquatch! Festival lineup this year is kinda like  sucking on a sour soother for me: a part of me is tasting the rainbow, and another part of me is doing the cobra yawn and gleeking all over the place.

Let’s be real here, Sasquatch! has nothing to prove; it is one of the sexiest festivals around (perhaps THE sexiest, in my opinion), and is consequently the wet dream of respectable indie kids, hipsters, scenesters,  and trendy liberal music junkies alike.  Truth is, Sasquatch! is for anyone who likes groovy beats, ’cause the sky is the limit if you’re there to have a no-holds-barred good time.  Better yet, if you like dunes, the Gorge Amphitheatre-situated on the Columbia River in Washington State-is quite possibly the highest quality in dunes, and truly a sight to behold… even after a couple cases of choice lager consumed at ridiculously balmy temperatures.

But, if heat stroke isn’t your thing, there is always the music, and though I hate to complain, the lineup is a little lack-lustre in just FEW areas:

Most specifically, HEADLINERS:  Pavement, Massive Attack, and My Morning Jacket.
Part of what makes Sasquatch! as gnar as it is is the fact that it applies to multiple genres… but I still have to shudder uncomfortably when I see Pavement headlining.
In fact, with the exception of Massive Attack, I honestly don’t see any of these acts as ‘Headliner’ material… especially when paired against the somewhat daunting Coachella and Bonnaroo lineups, which are pretty much enough to dampen even the most respectable gentleman’s rag.

The truth is though, there needs to be a little Pavement in everyone’s Festival of choice, and even heavy hitters like Coachella and Roskilde have included them in their lineups.

So, if you’re like me, and seeing Pavement is the equivalent of getting peppermint castile soap in your naughty place when you’re just trying to get clean, do not fear because Sasquatch! still has enough jam to please: LCD Soundsystem, Deadmau5, Vampire Weekend, Miike Snow, Boyz Noize, Kid Cudi, Booka Shade, Band of Horses, The National, Public Enemy, Passion Pit,  Neon Indian, She & Him (Zoey Deschanel!!), The Mountain Goats, Caribou, Broken Social Scene, Drive-By Truckers, and it goes on…

So, do yourselves a favor, get snappy and buy your tickets on the super-fly before they get expensive!  And look for me, I’ll be the one holding the Ultimate Party Force Banner trying to find my way around a disco ball.

Over and out.

Pemberton Festival-Canadians Can Rock-out to more than just Nickelback

Posted in Music, Music Festivals, Uncategorized with tags , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , on March 14, 2008 by attemptedmustache

Yeah… Pemberton sounds like some small English town that might house a Castle made entirely out of Mentos.. but, it sure ain’t.. it’s a little redneck town just outside of Whistler, British Columbia and it plans to be the future site of a very very cool Canadian Music Festival.

So if you’re like me, you’ve likely gotten far too accustomed to migrating 1000s of miles across the continent to catch acts you’d never see in Alberta, Canada. So… let Pemberton cut down your travel time by a couple days (though that might cut the fun in half too–if you’re a lover of the road trip).

The 2008 Pemberton Music Festival includes these amazing acts:

Coldplay, Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers, Nine Inch Nails, Jay-Z, Flaming Lips, Interpol, Death Cab For Cutie, The Tragically Hip, Serj Tankian, My Morning Jacket, Metric, Sam Roberts Band, Vampire Weekend, Black Mountain, Minus The Bear, Wintersleep, Buck 65, Secret Machines, MGMT, Brazillian Girls, SIA, Fiery Furnaces, Mates of State, The Airborne Toxic Event, Carolina Liar, Grand Ole Party, Monte Negro, Low Vs Diamond, Annie Stela, The Crystal Method, DJ Shadow & Cut Chemist, Junkie XL, David Seaman, Booka Shade, MSTRKRFT, M.A.N.D.Y., Tommie Sunshine, Chromeo, Deadmau5, 3 OH! 3, Kevin Shiu, Timeline, Tony Pantages

The Festival is set for July 25-27 in Pemberton, B.C

Tickets go on sale Friday March 28th and can be found HERE!

And talk about the perfect place to have a concert, this place looks like a magical fairy land!!
