Sasquatch! Festival 2010- Headlinerlesstastic

Looking at the Sasquatch! Festival lineup this year is kinda like  sucking on a sour soother for me: a part of me is tasting the rainbow, and another part of me is doing the cobra yawn and gleeking all over the place.

Let’s be real here, Sasquatch! has nothing to prove; it is one of the sexiest festivals around (perhaps THE sexiest, in my opinion), and is consequently the wet dream of respectable indie kids, hipsters, scenesters,  and trendy liberal music junkies alike.  Truth is, Sasquatch! is for anyone who likes groovy beats, ’cause the sky is the limit if you’re there to have a no-holds-barred good time.  Better yet, if you like dunes, the Gorge Amphitheatre-situated on the Columbia River in Washington State-is quite possibly the highest quality in dunes, and truly a sight to behold… even after a couple cases of choice lager consumed at ridiculously balmy temperatures.

But, if heat stroke isn’t your thing, there is always the music, and though I hate to complain, the lineup is a little lack-lustre in just FEW areas:

Most specifically, HEADLINERS:  Pavement, Massive Attack, and My Morning Jacket.
Part of what makes Sasquatch! as gnar as it is is the fact that it applies to multiple genres… but I still have to shudder uncomfortably when I see Pavement headlining.
In fact, with the exception of Massive Attack, I honestly don’t see any of these acts as ‘Headliner’ material… especially when paired against the somewhat daunting Coachella and Bonnaroo lineups, which are pretty much enough to dampen even the most respectable gentleman’s rag.

The truth is though, there needs to be a little Pavement in everyone’s Festival of choice, and even heavy hitters like Coachella and Roskilde have included them in their lineups.

So, if you’re like me, and seeing Pavement is the equivalent of getting peppermint castile soap in your naughty place when you’re just trying to get clean, do not fear because Sasquatch! still has enough jam to please: LCD Soundsystem, Deadmau5, Vampire Weekend, Miike Snow, Boyz Noize, Kid Cudi, Booka Shade, Band of Horses, The National, Public Enemy, Passion Pit,  Neon Indian, She & Him (Zoey Deschanel!!), The Mountain Goats, Caribou, Broken Social Scene, Drive-By Truckers, and it goes on…

So, do yourselves a favor, get snappy and buy your tickets on the super-fly before they get expensive!  And look for me, I’ll be the one holding the Ultimate Party Force Banner trying to find my way around a disco ball.

Over and out.

Did Someone Say Purple Rain?

Posted in Music Festivals with tags , , , , , on April 9, 2008 by attemptedmustache

Yep… all you die hard Prince fans out there, today is your day…well, if you’re going to the Coachella Valley Music Festival anyways. As rumored, as denied, and as revived from the dead once again, Prince WILL BE performing at the Coachella Festival.

I think even the most suspicious of bloggers fans had their doubts that he might actually join the roster. But with all the roused suspicion and publicity, hindsight might have just been blatantly telling us we were right all along. OF COURSE HE WAS GONNA BE THERE!! duh!

Today Coachella announced and confirmed his addition:

“Prince has joined this year’s line-up for the ninth COACHELLA VALLEY MUSIC & ARTS FESTIVAL at the Empire Polo Field in Indio, CA (Friday, April 25, Saturday, April 26 and Sunday, April 27) as the headliner for the second night of the critically acclaimed festival.”

And you know, its about time… cuz I was starting to forget that there actually was a Coachella Festival this year… it has fallen right off the radar over the last little while.

Keep up the good additions Coachella, and maybe next year I won’t cheat on you with Pemberton and Lollapalooza.

Richard Branson Drops His Mighty Suck-bomb!

Posted in Music Festivals with tags , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , on April 8, 2008 by attemptedmustache

Well… can’t say I didn’t tell you so.
Richard Branson is a mighty douche, and didn’t we all know it.

The Lineup for Virgin Fest Calgary was announced today, and the true shit-mix of acts looks like some sort of samonella potluck.

I have 3 words for you: Three Days Grace

And although that should speak for itself, lets think about this for a second…

How does this lineup make any sense at all… ?
No amount of The New Pornographers, Constantines, Stars or Flaming Lips could get me through that set. Sorry guys, you’ve all been overpowered and de-cooled by the SUCK. I seriously think the only way I could actually make it through the Three Days set is if I actually set myself on fire, immersed my head in one of the portable toilets or harpooned myself on the sharpest object in Fort Calgary (A Canadian Flag? How fitting!). Seriously, the alternative is always worse than the above, and no amount of ear plugs, headphones, plastic bags, sweat pants, quesadillas, crotch-socks or jockstraps would or COULD get me through it.

So, if you’re a total masochist and you have a huge hate-on for music, here is where you get tickets
AKA: $125 to kick yourself in the nut-sack.

As for the rest of you, read it and weep:

Stone Temple Pilots
The Tragically Hip
The Flaming Lips
City and Colour
Mathew good
Three Days Grace
The New Pornographers
Corb Lund
Fact to Face
Attack in Black
Pride Tiger
Crash Parallel
The Dudes
The Whitsundays
Ten Second Epic
The Spades
Said the Whale

All that is left to do here is find out a way to get there.

Lollapalooza Lineup Leaked

Posted in Music Festivals with tags , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , on April 4, 2008 by attemptedmustache

You know, there are few things that I get really excited about: The Season Premiere of Battlestar Gallactica, sushi, cheese… very few things.

But now I have to add some Jim De Rogatis to this list of exciting things, cuz he just ‘apparently’ leaked a huge portion of the Lollapalooza lineup. I mean, what a guy… he just couldn’t wait until April 7th, and who could blame him?

Well enough stalling, here’s the leak:

“Art-rock giants Radiohead and Nine Inch Nails, the reunited Rage Against the Machine, Jack White’s side project the Raconteurs and hometown heroes Wilco and Kanye West will headline the main stages on Aug. 1-3.

The Raconteurs, Wilco and West will each be making their second appearance at the reinvented destination festival. Other repeaters among the more than 100 acts on this year’s bill are Gnarls Barkley, the Black Keys, Broken Social Scene, G. Love & Special Sauce, Blues Traveler and Mates of State.

Quite a few of the other acts — including many of the most promising — have earlier performed at Chicago’s two independently produced music festivals, Pitchfork and Intonation. These include Bloc Party, Cat Power, Stephen Malkmus, Girl Talk, Kid Sister, Office, the Cool Kids, Battles, the Go! Team, Jamie Lidell and Grizzly Bear.”

Well, that looks like a pretty dreamy little start to a super weekend.
But I mean, I didn’t really need to hear all the hype. Lollapalooza, you had me at ‘Wilco’.

Virgin Fest US-Lineup Revealed-Kinda Lame

Posted in Music Festivals with tags , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , on April 2, 2008 by attemptedmustache

Well… it looks like the long-awaited Virgin Festival (Calgary) ought to be revealing its lineup pretty soon here, cuz Virgin Fest AMERICAN (aka: Baltimore) revealed it’s headliners.

And… well, they suck.

I hate to say I told you so.. but Virgin Fest is more than likely, going to blow.
Yeah, it’s the festival made in redneck, hillbilly heaven, and it’s gonna be prime for those head-banging losers in their country sweat pants, gettin’ wrecked on those Triple Rye cokes, and those Pilser tallcans. haha.

Seriously though:

Foo Fighters

Jack Johnson

Kanye West

Stone Temple Pilots

Nine Inch Nails

I mean seriously… who’s next, Nickel Back? I better go find the shotgun right now, and put myself out of my own audible misery.

Seriously though, I don’t even care if Richard Branson shaves his hairy-ass and face for this concert, its pretty much destined to be shitty. Minus maybe NIN and Kanye…

I mean, Stone Temple Pilots–I can’t wait to watch some washed-up junkie, try and find a workable vein, while he attempts to sing a bit, then croaks… just not my bag.

But for those of you who are into dead guys, enjoy the worms, but don’t expect to see me there!

For more info, read this shit:

Virgin Mobile Festival (Baltimore) takes between August 9 and 10 at the Pimlico Race Track in Maryland. The full lineup is expected to be announced in the coming days.

Virgin Group Founder and Chairman Sir Richard Branson announced the headliners during a keynote at the 2008 CTIA Wireless convention in Las Vegas. He said the rest of the two-day lineup and additional information about the event will be announced in the coming weeks.

Kyocera Wireless will again be the handset partner and premiere sponsor of Virgin Mobile Festival. In Vegas, Branson also debuted Virgin Mobile USA’s “Virgin Mobile Festival Special Edition Wild Card” handset from Kyocera, which will be available exclusively at Best Buy this summer.

Fans who purchase the phone will receive festival-inspired content as well as other additional benefits.

Over and out.

Sasquatch Comedy Announcement!

Everyone loves to laugh…

Well, I don’t know if that’s actually true, but… it’s cliche.. so somebody has to believe it!

Sasquatch revealed their comedy additions to their 2008 lineup and it looks pretty good. So if you pee a little when you laugh too hard… better bring some back ups.

Here’s the Additions:

Upright Citizen’s Brigade performing A.S.S.S.S.C.A.T. And more featuring: Matt Besser, Matt Walsh, Horatio Sanz, Tim Meadows, Jerry Minor, Rich Fulcher, and Sean Conroy / Brian Posehn / Michael Ian Black / Michael Showalter / Eugene Mirman / Reggie Watts / Marc Maron / Morgan Murphy / Seattle School featuring: Mike Min, Korby Sears, Liza Keckler / People’s Republic of Komedy featuring: Andy Haynes, Kevin Hyder, Aziza Diaz, Derek Sheen, Andy Peters
